The United States can no longer engage effectively in "nation-building" in the one place on Earth it has a right and duty to do so: at home. These are the lessons of the 2010 Gulf oil catastrophe, the 2008 financial meltdown and the 2005 Katrina horror - disasters that history will rightfully conflate as symptomatic of the fundamental crisis of the rule of Capital. The U.S. has become a company town of speculative and extraction enterprises whose social and physical geography the rulers relentlessly appropriate, monetize and despoil - all with obscene abandon.

Beleaguered BP Plc boss Tony Hayward retreated from daily management of the oil spill crisis on Tuesday and dodged a conference appearance where his stand-in was heckled by angry environmentalists.

Hayward's move, after a series of PR gaffes by the CEO and a failure to quickly stem the leak, came ahead of a U.S. court decision over whether to uphold a post-spill ban on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

The ban is being contested by oil drilling companies but has support among environmentalists and in other quarters after more fishing areas were closed on Tuesday in response to the worst spill in U.S. history.

Free skimmers for gulf help: Bureaucracy keeping many in American ports.

A bigger problem is that the administration hasn't been using all the oil skimmers in this country - in some cases only a day away from the gulf.... This week, Sen. Nelson's office supplied an inventory obtained from the Navy showing that roughly three dozen other Navy-owned skimmers - about 30 feet long and in good operating condition - could be mobilized. Sen. Nelson said in a statement. "We need as many of these boats as we can to skim the oil before it gets into the wetlands."

One place you do not hear much about tornadoes is Montana but on Sunday, that all changed after a damaging tornado struck the city of Billings.
"According to Keith Meier, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Billings, this was the first significant tornado to strike Yellowstone County, Montana since July 2, 1958. Meier estimated that this tornado was as strong as an EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, with winds estimated at more than 100 mph."

I just thought this was interesting as the US/Isreal have ships that have just crossed through here. But now another Oil leak in the Ocean? WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The oil emanating from the seafloor contains about 40 percent methane, compared with about 5 percent found in typical oil deposits, said John Kessler, a Texas A&M University oceanographer who is studying the impact of methane from the spill.

That means huge quantities of methane have entered the Gulf, scientists say, potentially suffocating marine life and creating "dead zones" where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives.

"This is the most vigorous methane eruption in modern human history," Kessler said.

As bad as an environmental dead zone would be, the impending danger from an explosion is unthinkable.

The movement for Australian union action against Israel is gaining strength after the apartheid state’s latest murderous attack on the unarmed aid flotilla to Gaza.

The South Coast Labour Council (SCLC) and the New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory branches of the Australian Services Union have joined the Construction Forestry Mining Energy Union in committing to the international boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against the aggressive Israeli state.

Australian unions and peak bodies have also called on members to attend the many protest actions.

Residents of the Gulf Coast braced for more oil from a ruptured BP Plc well to hit their beaches on Sunday as oil washed ashore at Panama City, a popular Florida tourist destination.

The city's beaches remained open after clean-up crews removed the tar balls from shore, authorities said. Even so, the sight is a worry for a state with an annual tourism industry worth $60 billion.

Issa frequently reminds reporters that he has bashed Republicans too. He pushed legislation to restrict fundraising mailers that look like the census after the Republican National Committee used the tactic. I cannot stress just how important it is for you to take the time out to read the following piece. To put it succinctly, Richard Cook covers everything that is happening in the world in to day in terms I don’t think many of us have heard before. I feel blessed to be able to offer such light to you all. For indeed, as dour as the things we face may be, through this piece, we will UNDERSTAND and KNOW what is happening to a great degree. None of this can be chalked up to accident. The geological properties of the area, and the nature of the deep oil system, were well known to the experts. The Gulf is one of the oldest and most studied drilling areas in the world. Any legitimate attempt to tap into that deep oil system would have called for better-than- usual safety measures, not systematically shoddy safety measures. Deep Water Horizon was an accident meant to happen, and the witnesses have been scared into silence.

Ronen Bergman, a senior military and political analyst for the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, recently wrote what I consider to be one of the most important articles for decades on the subject of the mindset of the Zionist state’s military and political leaders. It was reproduced in the Wall Street Journal under the headline Siege Fatigue and the Flotilla Mistake.

It’s obvious they have. I have no idea how they’ll stop the oil,” Carpenter said.

Hold your breath. This in not a joke, this is not a satire. It is real almost as much as it is pathetic. Israeli Ynet just reported that the images of captured Israeli commandos published in Turkish papers opened “...old wounds among those Israeli commandos involved in similar circumstances. Thus far, at least four combat soldiers have reported worsening of their (mental) condition”

Oil giant BP is facing a huge new challenge in disposing of the millions of gallons of potentially toxic oil sludge its crews are collecting from the Gulf of Mexico, according to industry experts and veterans of past spills.

Crews so far have skimmed and sucked up 21.1 million gallons of oil mixed with water, according to the Deepwater Horizon Unified Command. Because the out-of-control well may continue spewing for months, that total almost certainly will surge.

BP's plan for handling the gooey mess, written in conjunction with the Coast Guard, the Environmental Protection Agency and Louisiana officials, calls for reclaiming or recycling as much as possible.

When the Florida Press Association invited U.S. Senate candidates to speak to the media at the Ritz-Carlton on Thursday, there was one name absent from the list. Millions worldwide demand it. So does the Arab League, according to an Al Jazeera June 13 report quoting Amr Moussa, Arab League secretary-general, saying:

“This blockade….must be lifted and must be broken and the Arab League decision is very clear in this regard.”

On June 13, Moussa commented after visiting Gaza for talks with Hamas Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh, Haaretz reporting he’s the highest Arab official to do so since Hamas’ 2006 election, after which an Israeli/West embargo followed, then the June 2007 siege.

Moussa entered through Rafah after Egypt reopened it following the Freedom Flotilla massacre, saying it will continue indefinitely.

Through the recent murderous events in international waters Israel has once again shown its true colours and its total disregard for humanity. Defying repeated international calls for a transparent and credible probe into the incident, Israel’s cabinet approved the establishment of an “independent public commission” to probe the legal aspects of the deadly operation.

The New York Times, whose regional bureau chief has a son in the Israeli military, reports that Israel has just appointed a panel charged with investigating its attack on an aid flotilla that killed nine aid volunteers, including a 19-year-old American.

Isabel Kershner, who is an Israeli citizen and has refused to answer questions about her possible family ties to the Israeli military, writes the report.

After oil spill, Obama vows to find votes for energy bill

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AFP) – President Barack Obama Wednesday vowed to find the votes to pass a stalled energy bill, saying the Gulf of Mexico oil catastrophe showed the need to "aggressively" seek a clean energy future.
"The only way the transition to clean energy will succeed is if the private sector is fully invested in this future -- if capital comes off the sidelines and the ingenuity of our entrepreneurs is unleashed," he said.
"The only way to do that is by finally putting a price on carbon pollution," Obama said, noting that the House of Representatives had already passed a climate change bill, which had become stalled in the Senate.

Contrary to early reports from the Obama Administration that it was not aware of the catastrophic nature of the Gulf oil spill, newly-released Coast Guard logs show that the government knew within hours that the spill would be devastating.
Reports indicate Obama is to use the Oil Spill Disaster to renew a push for Cap & Trade. This is made more suspicious by his apparent delay and even obstruction of solutions:

I want to begin by saying that though I covered wars wherever they were taking place on Planet Earth in my television reporting days – it was in Vietnam as a very young correspondent that I first started to ask myself questions about why things are as they are in the world – I am an Englishman and one who didn’t serve in his country’s armed forces.
