Cutting federal spending should be Congress’s top priority: TWT/CPAC poll

Conservatives say reducing federal spending should be the Republican-led Congress’s top priority this session, beating out confrontations with President Obama over his immigration executive actions, Obamacare, and the Keystone XL pipeline, according to The Washington Times/CPAC flash poll at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.

Thirty-eight percent of the 141 respondents picked reducing federal spending at the top priority, followed by rolling back Mr. Obama’s amnesty plan at 26 percent.

What the BRICS plus Germany are really up to?

Winston Churchill once said, “I feel lonely without a war.” He also badly missed the loss of empire. Churchill’s successor – the ‘Empire of Chaos’ – now faces the same quandary. Some wars – as in Ukraine, by proxy – are not going so well.

And the loss of empire increasingly manifests itself in myriad moves by selected players aiming towards a multipolar world.

So no wonder US ‘Think Tankland’ is going bonkers, releasing wacky CIA-tinted “forecasts” where Russia is bound to disintegrate, and China is turning into a communist dictatorship. So much (imperial) wishful thinking, so little time to prolong hegemony.

Report: Obama threatened to fire on Israeli jets attacking Iran

The decision came, according to al-Jarida, after Israel revealed that the United States and Iran had been involved in secret talks over Iran’s nuclear program and were about to sign an agreement in that regard behind Israel's back.

According to the report, Netanyahu and his commanders agreed after four nights of deliberations to task the Israeli army's chief of staff Beni Gants to prepare a qualitative operation against Iran's nuclear program. In addition, Netanyahu and his ministers decided to do whatever they could do to thwart a possible agreement between Iran and the White House because such an agreement is, allegedly, a threat to Israel's security.

The sources added that Gants and his commanders prepared the requested plan and that Israeli fighter jets trained for several weeks in order to make sure the plans would work successfully. Israeli fighter jets even carried out experimental flights in Iran's airspace after they managed to break through radars.

Liquidation looms for insurance cooperative

An insurance cooperative created to provide health care in Iowa and Nebraska will be formally liquidated this weekend.

Iowa Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart said Thursday that a Polk County judge has agreed to approve the liquidation plan, which will be finalized on Saturday night.

CoOportunity is a federally funded nonprofit established to provide health care in Iowa and Nebraska. Gerhart took the cooperative over after he determined the nonprofit’s claims would exceed its available cash.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We will see more of these. The more-costly Obamacare policies come with sky-high deductibles, which means they don't really pay that much for your health care. The costs that used to be covered by the major health insurance companies that wrote the ACA are now being shifted onto supplemental insurance programs, which are then driven into bankruptcy.

Thank you, Obamacare!

Kerry warns Congress about Netanyahu’s Iran speech, says Bibi pushed US to attack Iraq

Netanyahu is set to use his next week’s address to a joint session of Congress to condemn a potential nuclear agreement with Iran.

During a House Committee on Foreign Affairs hearing on Wednesday, Kerry warned Congress about the controversial speech.

“The prime minister, as you will recall, was profoundly forward-leaning and outspoken about the importance of invading Iraq under George W. Bush, and we all know what happened with that decision,” Kerry said.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has questioned the judgement of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu over his stance on Iran’s nuclear programme.

The Israeli PM “may not be correct”, Mr Kerry said after attending the latest Iran nuclear talks in Geneva.

US-Israel row deepens as Kerry questions Netanyahu

The row between the White House and Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu has intensified with US officials saying his outspoken condemnation of efforts to secure an Iranian nuclear deal had injected destructive partisanship into US-Israeli relations.

What Is FCC Hiding? Show Us

The Federal Communications Commission plans sweeping new regulations on the Internet that it claims will help consumers. If so, why are they keeping these rules hidden before voting on them Thursday?

For years, the FCC has been trying to impose itself on the Internet in name of "net neutrality," only to be thwarted by the courts. Even net neutrality backers can point to only fear, not harm, as justification for such intervention.

Rather than admit net neutrality is a solution in search of a problem, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler decided — at the urging of President Obama — to regulate the Internet under what's called Title II. That's the part of the law that established the FCC and would let the government regulate competitive Internet service providers as though they were Ma Bell circa 1935.

Wheeler has refused to release the 332-page plan he wants the commission to approve on Thursday, citing FCC tradition as the reason.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Net Neutrality can be described on a single page. So what are in the either 331 pages the FCC doesn't want you to see? Licenesed required (with heavy fees) for globs? Content control under "Standards and practices" as is now done with TV? Transfer of the public bandwidth into corporate control (again, as was done with radio and TV)?

It looks like the government created the whole "Net Neutrality Crisis" to get us to go along with allowing the White House to seize control of the internet, which has become a major threat to those who rule by lies and deception.

Obama's regs will make Internet slow as in Europe, warn FCC, FEC commissioners

“These Internet regulations will deter broadband deployment, depress network investment and slow broadband speeds. How do we know? Compare Europe, which has long had utility-style regulations, with the United States, which has embraced a light-touch regulatory model. Broadband speeds in the United States, both wired and wireless, are significantly faster than those in Europe. Broadband investment in the United States is several multiples that of Europe. And broadband’s reach is much wider in the United States, despite its much lower population density,” the two wrote.

They also joined to warn about the Democrat-chaired Federal Election Commission eyeing regulation of political speech on the Internet.

Noting recent votes on the issue that ended in a political deadlock, the two wrote, “these close votes and the risk of idiosyncratic case-by-case enforcement inevitably discourage citizens and groups from speaking freely online about politics.”

White House Economic Report Calls for Cutting Corporate Taxes

On Thursday, the White House released its “2015 Economic Report of the President,” presenting it as an argument for “middle-class economics.”

The document seeks to justify Obama’s scheme, spelled out in his most recent budget proposal, to slash corporate taxes by up to ten percentage points. The report attempts to obscure the fact that such a windfall for the corporate-financial elite will dramatically increase social inequality, claiming instead that it will “increase productivity, output and living standards.”

The document falsifies both present economic reality and the development of the US economy in the post-World War II period in order to argue for further pro-corporate “reforms.”

The Destabilization Doctrine: ISIS, Proxies and Patsies

It would certainly seem that way if one were to take at face value the putrid assertions of Western governments that are not particularly known for their honesty or integrity. But astute observers of history and geopolitics can spot a deception when they see one, and the latest theatrical performances being marketed to the masses as real, organic occurrences remind one of a Monty Python sketch.

In the past week we have witnessed a number of expedient events that were designed to legitimize the West’s imperialist foreign policies in the minds of the masses. On Feb. 15 the Islamic State (also known as ISIS) released another highly choreographed and visually striking video allegedly depicting the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians. Shortly following the video’s release, the Egyptian dictator Abdel Fattah el-Sissi launched air strikes against ISIS targets in Libya where the execution video was allegedly filmed, although experts are now saying that the production was faked.

White House that promised transparency refuses to cooperate with IRS probe

The tax agency has already said it doesn’t have the capability to dig out the emails in question, but the White House’s chief counsel, W. Officials in India want to make one thing clear: The tree that President Barack Obama planted in New Delhi three weeks ago is not dead.

Obama: Pass a bill or I’ll rip up the Constitution

When Republicans challenged Obamacare in the courts, they had to overcome the hurdle of persuading the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a program enacted by Congress and signed by a president. The legal challenge by Texas and 25 other states to the administration’s executive actions on immigration is different. Congress never passed a Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (or DAPA) to grant legal status to some 5 million undocumented immigrants. President Obama himself never signed what his aides call an “executive action”; Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson takes that honor. Thus DAPA is a scary power grab that claims the president — and even his bureaucrats — have the power to override duly enacted federal law. Federal Judge Andrew S. Hanen of Brownsville, Texas, was right to issue a temporary injunction against it.

Veep, the serial creep! Biden under fire for his love of nuzzling startled ladies for the cameras

Biden was at the swearing in ceremony of new Defense Secretary Ash Carter, and as Carter delivered his speech, Biden could be seen in the background with his arms on the shoulders of the man's wife, Stephanie, and whispering into her ear.

Now, many conservative commentators are criticizing Biden for his frequent nuzzling of women right in front of the cameras.

White House Overhypes Obamacare Enrollment, Again

Yesterday evening, not long after the official (but not actual) end of Obamacare’s open enrollment period, the White House Twitter feed posted some breaking news: “About 11.4 million Americans are signed up for private health coverage,” the tweet said, posting the information with the hashtag #ACAWorks.

It is in some ways remarkable that the White House can provide this information so quickly. Not because the information should be hard to collect, but because other similar information often eludes the administration.

As Bloomberg News health care reporter Alex Wayne noted on Twitter earlier today during a Q&A session with Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Matthews Burwell, the administration "still can’t tell us how many people were enrolled in Obamacare at the end of 2014."

Victoria Nuland the F**k the EU spiritual mother of Nulandistan is in trouble

Der Spiegel attacked Victoria Nuland, President Obama’s Nazi-loving representative for Europe, as "America’s Riot Diplomat" — the sobriquet can mean both that Nuland acts disruptively, and that she creates riots (as on the Maidan in Ukraine).
The "Politics" column states that Nuland poses a threat to America’s allies, and that while she is supposed to solve the crisis of Ukraine and relations with Russia, "In the crisis, Nuland herself has become the problem."

EIR Founding Editor Lyndon LaRouche has called the immediate firing of Nuland, an indispensable step to avoid a plunge into thermonuclear war with Russia.

'Motherf****r's never happy!' Former top Obama adviser reveals what happens when the President loses his famous cool

He is typically a stoic Commander-in-Chief.

But now, Barack Obama's former top adviser has revealed in a new book what happens when the President loses his famous cool.

David Axelrod, Obama's top strategist during his 2012 presidential campaign, claims the 53-year-old once cussed at him in front of others and stormed out of a debate-prep session in a fit of rage.

PUTIN HEADS OFF A US-RUSSIA WAR

Has Russia’s Vladimir Putin pulled Barack Obama’s chestnuts out of the fire for a second time?

Will the shaky cease-fire in Ukraine that began this weekend hold up and end a conflict that was threatening a nuclear war between the United States and Russia?

The answer to the first question is yes. Remember back in 2013 when the Obama White House was threatening to attack Syria over allegations it was using poison gas?
As it turned out, the UN found it was the US-backed Syrian rebels who were likely to have used chemical weapons rather than the Damascus regime.

“Islamic State Déjà Vu”: US Sponsored Islamic Fighters in the Balkans, Washington Was Behind the 2001 Terrorist Attacks in Macedonia

The following article focussing on the jihadist terrorist insurgency in Macedonia was first published by antiwar.com in July 2001, barely two months before the September 11, 2001 attacks on the WTC and the Pentagon.

Known and documented, since the Soviet-Afghan war, recruiting Mujahedin (“holy warriors”) to fight covert wars on Washington’s behest had become an integral part of US foreign policy. A report of the US Congress had revealed how the US administration – under advice from the National Security Council headed by Anthony Lake – had “helped turn Bosnia into a militant Islamic base” leading to the recruitment through the so-called “Militant Islamic Network,” of thousands of Mujahedin from the Muslim world.

The Chinese state news agency Xinhua has published a commentary which casts doubts on the ability of the US to "find and eliminate the root causes of terrorism and extremism," owing to its "secret identity as a terrorist breeder."

Sanctions Imposed on the U.S.?

This year, it is all beginning in February. First the onslaught against Argentina and following that comes yet another coup against Venezuela, and its democratically elected, progressive government.

The coup has been thwarted. Venezuela prevailed!

As Telesur reported:

“Nicolas Maduro announced Thursday that the government had thwarted a coup attempt which was being coordinated by Venezuela’s right-wing opposition with the support of the U.S. government.

Just the day before the revelations, opposition leaders Leopoldo Lopez, Maria Corina Machado and Antonio Ledezma released a “transition plan” which involved privatization of the country’s oil, deregulation of the economy and accords with “international financial institutions” including the International Monetary Fund.”

The army stood firmly by the government of President Maduro. Most of Latin America, including UNASUR, expressed both their solidarity and support.

Flashback: “ISIL completely fabricated enemy by USA”, former CIA contractor

“This is a completely fabricated enemy,” he said in a phone interview with Press TV from Anaheim, California on Thursday.

“The funding is completely from the United States and its allies and for people to think that this enemy is something that needs to be attacked in Syria or Iraq is a farce because obviously this is something that we create it, we control and only now it has become inconvenient for us to attack this group as a legitimate enemy,” Kelley added.

Five Reasons Congress Should Reject Obama's ISIS War

At long last, the Obama administration has submitted a draft resolution to Congress that would authorize the ongoing U.S.-led military intervention against the Islamic State, or ISIS.

The effort comes more than six months after the U.S. began bombing targets in Iraq and Syria. Since then, some 3,000 U.S. troops have been ordered to Iraq, and coalition air forces have carried out over 2,000 bombing runs on both sides of the border.

Better late than never? Maybe not.

Has President Obama Once Again Sold Us Down the River?

So, the history of the past two years is as follows. First, President Obama was going to bomb ISIS in Syria but the public demanded that he request Congressional approval. Then about a year later he decided that he could use the Congressional authority (granted back in 2002) to go against ISIS and has done so since September 2014. And now with both houses of Congress in Republican hands, he is asking for limited authority even though he has been acting without renewed authority for over five months.

What does all this mean? It just means that (as I said before) “ . . . the people who control him and the government want war.” It’s all about the money, and nothing else.

War in Ukraine: Who Wants War? And Who Doesn’t?

Just as NATO allies Germany and France were undertaking a peace initiative with Russia and Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry turned up in Kiev at the same time, seeking to poison the talks before they started by spouting yet again the ritual U.S. accusation of “Russian aggression.” The incantation is meaningless without context. Its purpose is mesmerize a false consciousness. “Russian aggression” may or may not exist in the events of the past year, just like “Russian self-defense.” Reporting on the ground has been too unreliable to support any firm analysis, never mind the provocative “Russian aggression” the U.S. brandishes as a virtual call for war.

A Washington-based think-tank, the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy (IRmep) recently painted a different, and more appealing, picture. Saturday, February 14th, marks 13 years since the arrival of British resident Shaker Aamer at Guantanamo Bay, where he has been held without charge or trial ever since.

Mr Aamer, a father of four from London, has been cleared for release under both the Bush and Obama administrations, in a process which requires six government agencies to confirm that he poses no threat. However, he remains imprisoned in Guantanamo, despite repeated requests by the UK Government that he be returned to his family in South London.

Bipartisan opposition to Obama's war authorization plan

President Obama’s war powers resolution has many Republicans and Democrats agreeing on one thing — they don’t like it.

Obama’s request for authorization to use military force against the Islamic State is a tough sell on Capitol Hill in its current form, with Republicans calling it too soft and Democrats questioning its scope and size.

Russia the world’s last line of defence against Isramerica’s murderous grand design

The world is heading for war. The Isramerican empire is funneling tons of heavy weaponry into Ukraine to provoke Russia into launching a defensive attack, and then that response will be used to justify starting a major war. It is a waste of time trying to find any intelligent discussion in the mainstream corporate media of why the U.S. wants to provoke war with Russia. Its job is to cover up and falsify, not report.
