Scientists Discover the First Room-Temperature Superconductor

A TEAM OF physicists in New York has discovered a material that conducts electricity with perfect efficiency at room temperature—a long-sought scientific milestone. The hydrogen, carbon, and sulfur compound operates as a superconductor at up to 59 degrees Fahrenheit, the team reported in Nature. That’s more than 50 degrees higher than the previous high-temperature superconductivity record, set last year.

“This is the first time we can really claim that room-temperature superconductivity has been found,” said Ion Errea, a condensed-matter theorist at the University of the Basque Country in Spain who was not involved in the work.

“It’s clearly a landmark,” said Chris Pickard, a materials scientist at the University of Cambridge. “That’s a chilly room, maybe a British Victorian cottage,” he said of the 59-degree temperature.

How to Clean Up Your Digital History

ONCE YOU POST something to the internet, it's there forever unless you take steps to remove it (and even then, you may not be successful.) While keeping your digital history around in perpetuity can have its advantages—digging out those tax emails from 2006, looking back on vacations from half a decade ago—it's also worth keeping some parts of our online trails as short as we can.

First, it means nothing from our past can come back and embarrass us. Second, it makes it harder for advertising companies to keep track of what we're up to online. And third (in the case of files and emails at least), it frees up space for new stuff.

If you've decided that you'd rather not have decades worth of tweets and emails hanging around, there are ways to put limits on your digital baggage. Note this is slightly different to stopping sites and networks from tracking you as you make your way around the web, though the two are definitely linked.

Twenty years of the International Space Station – but was it worth it?

Space scientists are preparing to celebrate a remarkable astronautical achievement. In a few days, they will mark the 20th anniversary of humanity’s continuous presence in outer space.

For two decades, teams of astronauts have made their homes 250 miles above our planet through their uninterrupted occupancy of the International Space Station (ISS). First inhabited by US astronaut Bill Shepherd and Russian cosmonauts Sergei Krikalev and Yuri Gidzenko on 2 November 2000, the ISS has since provided shelter for a steady rotation of crews that has ensured the station has never been left unoccupied.

How to Spot A Glitzy Star That Flashes Red & Green (And Isn't a Plane)

If you’re fortunate enough to live somewhere where the stars are visible, those of us who live in cities hope that you’re taking advantage of it. Sure, we can see the moon when it’s out—maybe an occasion planet if it’s bright enough—but not much beyond that. Then there are the moments when it looks like we can see a star—realize that it’s moving, hoping it might even be a shooting star—only to realize it’s an airplane.

But not every blinking object in the sky is a plane. In fact, there’s one star in particular that flashes red and green this time of the year. Here’s how to spot it.

As astronomers search for exoplanets, those planets could have Earth in sight, study says

While the search for exoplanets has revealed more than 4,000 planets beyond our solar system over the last couple of decades, it begs the question of what may be looking back.

That's the question posed by two astronomers in a study published Wednesday in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

"In our search for life in the universe, we ask a little bit of a different question in this research," said Lisa Kaltenegger, associate professor of astronomy in Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences and director of Cornell's Carl Sagan Institute, in a video shared by the institution.

"We ask, who could have actually spotted us? Who could have found out that Earth is teeming with life from their vantage point?"

More Evidence Of A Great Purge Ahead If Joe Biden Steals The Election With Calls For 'An Assault' Upon The Independent Media

While we've reported a lot about the censorship of Conservatives over the past many years, we get a good look at the direction that 'censorship' will take should Joe Biden be elected President in this new story over at Yahoo News titled "Biden's First War Would Have To Be Against Propaganda".

With Democrats labeling 'propaganda' as anything that paints them in a bad light or anything that exposes the truth, and the 'real propaganda' actually being the drivel peddled by the mainstream media for arguably decades or more now, the Yahoo story paints a very bleak picture for 'independent news' should Biden somehow steal this election, especially with the Washington Post having previously incorrectly labeled the large majority of pro-Trump, pro-America news websites as 'Russian propaganda'.

Ask Ethan: Could Measurement Inaccuracies Explain Our Cosmic Controversies?

When it comes to the Universe, there’s a whole lot that doesn’t add up. All the matter we observe and infer — from planets, stars, dust, gas, plasma, and exotic states and objects — can’t account for the gravitational effects we see. When we observe galaxies and measure both their distances and redshifts, it reveals the expanding Universe, and yet there are two recent surprises: observations that indicate the expansion is accelerating (attributed to dark energy), and the fact that different measurement methods lead to two different sets of expansion rates.

Are these problems actually real puzzles to be reckoned with, or could they be due to problems with the measurements themselves? That’s what Martin Step wants to know, as he writes in to ask:

A team of scientists discovered an ancient tectonic plate that used to be part of the crust beneath northern Canada.

The existence of the plate, which has the ominous name “Resurrection,” has been theorized previously. But it’s remained a touchy subject among geologists, Live Science reports, with many disputing its existence. Now, though, new research lends more evidence for the former plate, and attributes several volcanoes’ existence to turbulent activity along its borders.

The Biden Emails Are Real – Can We Expunge Trump’s Impeachment Now?

It was way, way back in January when a drunken House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) slurred her way through the phrase, “Impeachment… is forever!” Op-eds across the country repeated the phrase. But will it? The Hunter Biden emails have been validated as authentic. And that means President Trump has been completely vindicated – the impeachment itself was invalid.

Stahl Admits To Wanting Hillary To Get Away With Crimes

Lesley Stahl has been working in Main Stream Media (MSM) since 1972. She has bragged on her getting hired by CBS as part of Affirmative Action, just because she was a woman, not because of her (lack of) qualifications.

Stahl credits her CBS News hire to the Federal Communications Commission’s 1972 inclusion of women in its affirmative action mandate: “the television networks were scouring the country for women and blacks with any news experience at all. A friend in New York had called to tell me about a memo floating around CBS News mandating that ‘the next reporter we hire will be a woman.'”

This is also seemingly confirmed by her not being as well thought of as other female journalists, as is evidenced by the network reducing her salary by $500,000/year when Katie Couric was hired.

Images captured by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft during its July 2015 Pluto flyby reveal the small planet to be the only place in the solar system other than Earth to have white-capped mountains. However, the processes by which the white peaks are created on the two worlds are very different.

Initially, scientists thought the white peaks on Pluto’s surface, located along its equator to the west of the iconic heart-shaped glacier known as Tombaugh Regio, in an area dubbed Cthulhu Regio, are whitened by methane snow.

While the peaks of the two-and-a-half-mile high mountaintops are composed of methane, the white methane frost is produced by condensation that takes place at higher, warmer altitudes in Pluto’s atmosphere.

The mountains are composed of water ice, which is rock hard on a world where surface temperatures can drop as low as minus 387 degrees Fahrenheit.

Professor doubles down on prediction model of Trump's chances in 2020

Despite recent polls that identify Joe Biden as the heavy favorite in 2020, a political science professor is still standing by his prediction model that shows President Trump having a "91 percent" chance of winning in November.

“The Primary Model gives Trump a 91 percent chance of winning in November,” Norpoth said. "This model gets it right for 25 of the 27 elections since 1912, when primaries were introduced."

No Signature Match? No Postmark? No Problemo! This Week In Ballot Shenanigans!

Last week, we were dumpster-diving for ballots, navigating the depths of a 15-yard box for the 100 stale beer and coffee ground-stained ballots dumped by some malevolent (or lazy) postal worker in Kentucky. This week, another 99 ballots and hundreds of pieces of first-class mail were found dumped by yet another postal worker, this one in New Jersey.

Both ballot-tossing layabouts are being prosecuted by the feds, but it’s unknown at this point if this is their first ballot-tossing caper or just their latest ballot-tossing caper.

We’ll start with the story that made headlines recently when Pennsylvania authorities tossed out 372,000 ballot applications.

Top 10% Of Twitter Users Create 92% Of Tweets In US - And 69% Of Them Lean Left

The majority of Twitter content coming out of the United States, 92% of it, is created by just 10% of Twitter users, and 69% of those users are Democrat or Democratic-leaning independents, according to new research by Pew.

Most U.S. adults on Twitter post only rarely. But a small share of highly active users, most of whom are Democrats, produce the vast majority of tweets. The Center’s analysis finds that just 10% of users produced 92% of all tweets from U.S. adults since last November, and that 69% of these highly prolific users identify as Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents. -Pew Research

Several factors contribute to this phenomenon, says Pew, including that more Democrats use Twitter than Republicans, and the 10% most active Democrats produce roughly twice as many tweets per month (157) than the 10% of most active Republicans (79). [If it were the other way around, Russian bots would surely be to blame.]

Latino Business Owner: This Election Is Not About Donald Trump

Joe Biden and the Democratic Party want Americans to see this year’s presidential contest as a referendum on Donald Trump, but the election of 2020 is about bigger things -- bigger, even, than assessing a sitting president’s record in office.

The stakes in this election involve the American way of life itself, and all that it promises, including personal freedom, domestic tranquility, and economic opportunity. It’s time for Americans to pick a side and decide whether our country will forge a path toward to renewed prosperity or whether it wants to travel down the road of greater government control and constrictions on political and personal freedom.

This Is How A State Goes Bankrupt, Illinois Edition

Somewhere back in the depths of the 20th century, a bunch of governors, mayors, and public sector union leaders got together and cooked up one of history’s greatest financial scams. They would offer teachers, cops, and firefighters extremely generous pensions but would avoid raising taxes to fund the resulting future obligations. Grateful workers would vote to re-elect their benefactors, while taxpayers would appreciate the combination of excellent public services and low taxes.

The beauty of the scheme flowed from its demographics: Most of the original public sector workers were young and therefore decades away from retirement, so the crime wouldn’t be discovered until long after the architects retired rich and revered.

Here's How Biden Will 'Ban' Fracking

The “fracking” revolution has unleashed an incredible American energy boom over the past decade. America is now the biggest producer of oil and gas in the world, beating Saudi Arabia and Russia. Fracking has contributed to an economic revival in areas of the country once in freefall. Pennsylvania is now second only to Texas in natural gas production, and Ohio is now fifth. This has reduced air pollution by displacing coal.

Joe Biden wants a counter-revolution, but he does not want you to know about it.

Candidate Joe Biden has sent mixed messages.

During the primary debates, Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, said they supported a fracking ban. Their campaign, however, insists that the Biden plan would ban fracking only on federal lands, not on private lands. Fact checkers regularly parrot the talking point.

Recent College Grads Face Worst Employment Prospects In Decades Thanks To COVID-19

Just like their forebears (the millennials who graduated from college between 2008 and 2012) it appears Gen Z is facing a labor-market shock of serious magnitude, spurred by the coronavirus pandemic and its attendant impact on the American economy, swelling the unemployment rolls while also disrupting the typical pipeline of internships and entry-level gigs that usually help students find permanent entry-level jobs.

In a report published Friday morning, Bloomberg illustrated the difficulties faced by college graduates, and students in their early 2020s, who have just seen their job market plans go up in smoke. Data released yesterday showed the number of Americans filing for the first time for unemployment benefits fell to 787k (870k exp), the lowest point since lockdowns began.

Last week it was reported that at least 15 billionaires or their spouses have donated to the political action committee.

Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner have reportedly threatened to sue the Lincoln Project over coronavirus-themed ads. The advertisements in question are two giant billboards located in Times Square in New York City and depict Kushner and Ivanka. One billboard shows Ivanka smiling and gesturing towards the death toll from the coronavirus in the United States in general, and in New York in particular.
