The U.S. will support a joint international effort to train Ukrainian pilots on modern fighter aircraft, including F-16s, President Joe Biden informed G-7 leaders on Friday in Japan.

The training will take place outside Ukraine at a site in Europe and will require months to complete. Officials hope to begin the training in the coming weeks, according to a senior administration official, who like others was granted anonymity to discuss the matter before it was announced.

The move could pave the way to eventually send advanced Western fighter jets to Ukraine, and discussions are ongoing about how and when that would happen, the official said.

A man who allegedly raped a teen girl, and another woman after threatening her while displaying a machete in Maryland, was in the U.S. illegally, Fox 5 reported on Friday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that the suspect, Jose Roberto Hernandez-Espinal, 20, was an illegal immigrant from El Salvador that came to the U.S. in 2013, according to Fox 5, which is a DC-Maryland based outlet. Hernandez-Espinal is accused of raping a 15-year-old at a park in Silver Spring, Maryland, just days before he raped a woman while threatening the alleged victim and her friend with a machete at the same park.

Hernandez-Espinal allegedly pointed the machete at one of the victim’s backs before taking her to a secluded area, raping her and stealing her jewelry before fleeing the scene, according to Fox5.

Cities in Arizona may soon have to take down their intersection cameras that have generated millions of dollars from motorists over the years.

House lawmakers approved Senate Bill 1234 on a bipartisan vote Monday afternoon. If Gov. Katie Hobbs signs it, the new law would ban the use of photo enforcement systems to enforce traffic law.

“This is not law enforcement in my city or state, this is a scheme,” said Rep. Joe Chaplik, R-Scottsdale. “It’s a third-party company issuing tickets to make a profit with almost 75% of the profit from those ticket fees going to this company. They own the cameras and they’re telling the city who is guilty.”

Chaplik said the cameras don’t offer a driver the due process they would receive if they’re pulled over by law enforcement.

Newly released documents reveal that the sugar industry bribed high-profile and influential scientists from Harvard University, paying them to publish fake news about the primary causes of heart attacks.

The Harvard scientists false claims significantly influenced public health strategies regarding nutrition for decades, and the results are still being experienced today.

The news was disclosed in a recent special report in JAMA Internal Medicine and has shocked the research community. If the experts are taking bribes and lying about the causes of heart attacks, what else might they be lying about?

In the 1960s, there was no obligation to disclose conflicts of interest, enabling sugar industry executives to collaborate extensively with the researchers in revising and refining their paper until it met their desired standards, all without the need to acknowledge their own involvement.

‘I thought I had seen everything but this one floored me,’ said Marion Nestle of New York University, who wrote an editorial on the new findings.

‘It was so blatant. And the “bribe” was so big. Funding research is ethical,’ Nestle said. Bribing researchers to produce the evidence you want is not.’

The danger of ventilators and their likely involvement in the unnecessary deaths of Covid-19 patients has already been raised in these pages. That article was unconvincingly ‘fact checked’ with the customary ‘conspiracy theory’ trope being levelled at the authors. However, while ventilators may not have been fully responsible, for example, for the unusually high deaths of Covid-19 patients on ventilators in New York, they were associated with a higher level of mortality.

Ventilation, a procedure exclusively carried out in intensive-care environments, involves the introduction of an endotracheal tube into the lungs by which air is then pumped in. Despite the sterile conditions under which the tube is introduced into the lungs, bacterial infection referred to as ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is common within 24 hours. This is especially dangerous because the patient will already be medically compromised, and the immune system will be less able to combat the infection. VAP has a mortality rate of between 20 and 50 per cent.

An article published earlier this month by the News Center of Northwest Medicine, which is a non-profit healthcare system associated with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, published an article titled: ‘Secondary Bacterial Pneumonia Drove Many COVID-19 Deaths.’ The article featured Professor Benjamin Stinger of Northwest Medicine, who led a study linking secondary pneumonia caused by being on a ventilator to mortality which was published in a recent issue of the Journal of Clinical InvestigationJCI is a leading medical journal with an impressive impact factor, a measure of how much it is cited, of 19.
