The GOP-led House is preparing to hold Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in contempt of Congress for his refusal to hand over documents related to the Biden administration’s withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in 2021.

On Thursday, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) announced that his committee will look into a resolution that recommends holding Blinken in contempt of Congress due to his refusal to comply with a subpoena issued in July for documents, including interview notes used in drafting the the After-Action Review on the Afghanistan withdrawal.

“It has been nearly 14 months since we first requested these documents that are critical to our investigation in the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. The ball is in the secretary’s court – if he wants to avoid being the first Secretary of State in history to be held in contempt of Congress, he can provide these documents,” McCaul said.

McCaul had indicated the panel’s readiness to hold Blinken in contempt of Congress in a letter on Monday in which he wrote, “The law does not afford the State Department blanket authority to hide behind ‘Executive Branch confidentiality interests’ to obstruct Congress’s access to the truth.”

One of the greatest mysteries of the modern era, the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, has newfound hope.

After United States technology company Ocean Infinity suggested a new search in the southern Indian Ocean, where the airplane is believed to have fallen 10 years ago, the Malaysian government announced on Sunday that it may resume the search for the missing aircraft.

For 10 years, the victims’ families have been in the dark about their loved ones’ whereabouts.

The jet was over the South China Sea when air traffic controllers lost contact with it just after midnight on March 8th, 2014, local time.

The jet swerved off course and, over the next few weeks, meticulous examination of radar tracking and a series of satellite “pings” revealed that the jet veered off course and flew west over the South East Asia peninsula before turning south over the Indian Ocean.

With the technology company vowing not to be paid unless it locates Flight MH370, which inexplicably disappeared over the Indian Ocean 10 years ago, Malaysia may be resuming the search.

A source recently sent to me an article by a well-placed Russian foreign affairs expert with a note attached: “He thinks like you do.” Not entirely, but we share some of the same concerns.

“What Is To Be Done?,” by Sergei A. Karaganov, honorary chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, Moscow ( https://eng.globalaffairs.ru/articles/an-age-of-wars-what-is-to-be-done/ ) reflects my own views expressed on many occasions, such as that in the face of the Western world’s hostility, Russia should avoid continuing conflict by turning to the East to China and India and to the expansion of BRICS. Like myself Karaganov hopes to avoid the death of mankind in nuclear war. He writes off the pro-Western Atlanticist Integrationist Russian liberals who clinged too long to their fantasy of being an accepted part of the West. Likely, it was this delusional collection of Russian liberals who are responsible for the failures in judgment that Karaganov brings home to the Kremlin, the very same failures that I have pointed out. The last thing Russia needs is interdependence with the West.

Karaganov points out that Russia has Asian roots dating from the days of Mongol overlords that are as strong as Western roots and that it is China that is rising, not Europe and the US which he regards as essentially washed up politically, economically, morally, and spiritually.

Shehbaz Sharif was sworn in as Pakistan's new prime minister Sunday amid a swirl of accusations that his party, in concert with the Pakistani military, rigged the elections.

Earlier this month, voters in Pakistan woke up to what initially appeared to be an overwhelming victory to former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and a strong rebuke to the powerful military-backed government in the country’s parliamentary elections. Instead, the election was ultimately called for the military's preferred candidate, Sharif, of the conservative Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) party.

Early results, broadcast widely by the Pakistani media, had shown a landslide victory for PTI. After the election was called for Sharif's party, nonpartisan observers like the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) found that there were election law violations at over two-thirds of polling sites, which almost certainly helped change the outcomes.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland delivered remarks on ‘Bloody Sunday’ at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama.

Garland told the black churchgoers that voter ID requirements are “discriminatory” and that he’s fighting to stop oppressive laws.

“The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy, the right from which all others flow. It is a right that members of this community bled for,” Garland said to the churchgoers.

Garland insisted the “right to vote is still under attack.”

“And that is why the Justice Department is fighting back,” he said. “That is why, one of the first things I did as Attorney General was to double the number of lawyers in the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division. ”

Garland said voter ID requirements and restrictions of ballot ‘drop boxes’ are “discriminatory, burdensome and unnecessary.”

Biden won’t say Laken Riley’s name either.

Following multiple reports from Russian and Western sources that the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile was used by Russian forces to support ongoing operations in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin confirmed in an address to the Russian Federal Assembly on February 29 that the missile had seen its first combat launch. "The Zircon sea-launched hypersonic strike system has already been used in combat. It was not mentioned in the 2018 message. But this system, too, is already in service," he stated. The president elaborated that the missile was capable of reaching Mach 9 speeds and had a range of more than 1,000 kilometres. His statement notably came exactly six years after he had in a previous address announced the existence of the system, alongside five other strategic weapons systems. These included the Sarmat silo-based intercontinental range ballistic missile, the Avangard intercontinental range hypersonic glide vehicle, the Kinzhal air launched ballistic missile, the Poseidon unmanned nuclear armed submarine and the 9M730 Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missile. The Zircon’s first use thus allowed Russian sources to better emphasize the significant progress made bringing all these assets to an operational status now operational.

More than two months of direct fighting with the Houthis has heavily taxed the U.S. military, which is spending a significant amount of money to take down cheap drones, launch retaliatory strikes and defend against rebels who are, in turn, shooting down pricey American drones.

In most cases, the U.S. is launching $2 million defense missiles to stop $2,000 Houthi drones, a discrepancy that the Yemeni rebel group has noted in its statements mocking Washington.

The cost of taking on the Houthis is also becoming more apparent as the defiant fighters show no signs of stopping and could lock the U.S. into a long conflict — and it’s throwing the world into a tough spot.

“North Yemen is becoming like North Korea when it comes to firing rockets over the seas,” said Mohammed al-Basha, a Yemen and Middle East expert at Navanti Group. “It’s going to be a long-term issue for not just us, but for the world.”

It took 10 years and three rounds of in vitro fertilization for Rania Abu Anza to become pregnant, and only seconds for her to lose her five-month-old twins, a boy and a girl.

An Israeli strike hit the home of her extended family in the southern Gaza city of Rafah late Saturday, killing her children, her husband and 11 other relatives and leaving another nine missing under the rubble, according to survivors and local health officials.

She had woken up at around 10 p.m. to breastfeed Naeim, the boy, and went back to sleep with him in one arm and Wissam, the girl, in the other. Her husband was sleeping beside them.

The explosion came an hour and a half later. The house collapsed.

NATO’s Undeniably Corrupt Ukrainian Client

by Ted Galen Carpenter Posted on March 04, 2024

When Russian forces expanded their military presence in Ukraine in February 2022, U.S. officials and most of the Western news media portrayed the development as a brazen act of aggression by a dictatorship against a peaceful democracy.  The reality was much more complex.  Ukraine had allowed itself to become NATO’s pawn in Russia’s security zone.  Such a move was bound to create severe tensions, not only between Russia and Ukraine, but between Russia and NATO.  In February 2022, regional tensions reached the point of being a full-fledged proxy war between the West and Russia.  Moreover, the United States and its NATO allies endeavored to portray the fighting in Ukraine as exceptionally evil.

In President Biden’s initial remarks after Russia’s invasion, he said “The Russian military has begun a brutal assault on the people of Ukraine without provocation, without justification, without necessity.”  “We saw a flagrant violation of international law in attempting to unilaterally create two new so-called republics on sovereign Ukrainian territory.  And at the very moment that the United Nations Security Council was meeting to stand up for Ukraine’s sovereignty to stave off invasion, Putin declared his war.  Within moments – moments, missile strikes began to fall on historic cities across Ukraine.  Then came in the air raids, followed by tanks and troops rolling in.”  “Putin is the aggressor.  Putin chose this war.  And now he and his country will bear the consequences.”  “God bless the people of a free and democratic Ukraine.”

The initial U.S. version of the war remained largely intact for the first several months.  Gradually, though, it became evident that Biden’s version of reality was distorted if not outright fiction.  Ukraine was portrayed as the champion of democracy and Western values while Russia became the symbol of post-communist authoritarianism.  The reality was that both Russia and Ukraine were corrupt quasi-authoritarian states.

There were ample signs early on that Ukraine was not a worthy democracy.  Opposition parties were outlawed.  Officials were dismissed for extensive allegations of misconduct.  Elections were postponed indefinitely.  The United States held elections during two World Wars and the Civil War.  Opposition media outlets were banned or heavily censored.

In case after case, the standard excuse for such actions was that opponents of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s regime were doing Russia’s bidding in the war.  Even religious factions not subservient to the government in Kyiv soon found their freedoms in danger.  Even National elections for Parliament were soon indefinitely on hold.  Under President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine had become a “democracy” without freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and a system of basic civil liberties.

Claire's Observations:  The US and NATO have been attempting to "raise on a busted flush" with Ukraine, whose leadership is so crooked, it collectively has to screw its socks on in the morning.

US/NATO leadership understood this from the get-go, yet portrayed Ukraine as a "great democracy, fighting for its life, against Evil Russia."

The most intelligent, responsible thing for Zelinsky to, if he actually does give a damn about the Ukrainian people, is to sue for peace, and try to get the best terms for Ukraine possible from Russia, and right the hell now.

Yet he doesn't and he won't; why?!?  Is he getting paid (handsomely) for keeping the war going?!?

Or, alternatively, what in the name of heaven might he have on NATO and US leadership (most probably courtesy of MOSSAD or the IDF) which would really put a dent in the processes and plans of both US and NATO leadership?!?

All I can tell you, is that the continuation of this war, in a way to get Russia to respond aggressively, is insanity writ large.

The U.S. Supreme Court could issue a ruling as early as March 4 regarding a case that seeks to bar former President Donald Trump from appearing on primary and general election ballots for the 2024 presidential election.

The Supreme Court, in an unusual Sunday update to its schedule, didn’t specify what ruling it would issue. However, the justices on Feb. 8 heard arguments in the former president’s appeal of a ruling in Colorado and are due to issue their own decision.

The March 3 announcement said the opinion would be posted online at 10 a.m. Washington time. “The court will not take the bench,” it only said on its website.

Late last year, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that President Trump is disqualified from appearing on ballots in Colorado, citing an interpretation of the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment provision that stipulates that candidates who engaged in an “insurrection or rebellion” against the United States should be prevented from holding office. Maine’s Democratic secretary of state made a similar decision days later, and a judge in Illinois recently issued a similar ruling to prevent his appearance on ballots.

A new poll from Reuters/Ipsos found that the majority of Democratic voters prefer a presidential candidate who doesn’t support military aid to Israel, another sign that President Biden’s unconditional support for the Israeli slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza could cost him in November.

The poll shows that 56% of respondents who identified as Democrats were less likely to support a candidate who backs military aid to Israel, while 40% were more likely to support such a candidate.

The results were more evenly split when taking into account Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. The poll found 48% of all voters would be less likely to support a pro-Israel military aid candidate, while 47% were more likely to support such a candidate.

Aid groups and officials are criticizing the US for dropping humanitarian assistance into Gaza by airplane instead of pressuring Israel to allow more aid trucks to enter the Strip, where the entire population is facing “crisis” levels of food insecurity.

On Saturday, US Central Command announced that it conducted a “combined humanitarian assistance airdrop into Gaza” with the Royal Jordanian Air Force. The command said US C-130 military transport planes dropped 38,000 meals on Gaza, which is populated by about 2.2 million people.

The international charity Oxfam said the airdrops “mostly serve to relieve the guilty consciences of senior US officials whose policies are contributing to the ongoing atrocities and risk of famine in Gaza” and called for the US to end military aid to Israel.

The Israeli genocide in Gaza will be remembered as the moral collapse of the West.

As soon as the Israeli war began, following the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation on October 7, every moral or legal frame of reference that Washington and its western allies supposedly held dear was suddenly dropped. Western leaders rushed to Israel, one after the other, offering military, political and intelligence support – along with a blank check to rightwing Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and his generals to torment the Palestinians.

The likes of the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, went as far as joining Israel’s first war council meeting, so that he could take part in the discussion which directly resulted in the Gaza genocide.

“I come before you not only as the United States Secretary of State, but also as a Jew,” he said on October 12. The interpretation of these words is disturbing, no matter how it is spun, but it also ultimately means that Blinken has lost all credibility as an American, as a politician or even as a fair-minded human being.

The Israeli army is experiencing a shock “in the wake of nearly 150 days of conflict” and suffers from a “severe manpower issue”, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Friday.

“Following 147 days of combat, the army is experiencing intensifying personnel shortages,” the newspaper reported, highlighting how the Israeli military “is calling for another 7,500 officer and non-commissioned officer positions, while the treasury is currently only approving 2,500”.

“Approximately 582 soldiers have fallen in battle, and several more are physically and psychologically wounded, to the extent that they are unable to return to their roles,” the report added, noting that “a significant number of commanders, who led their troops as expected, also fell in the battles, necessitating training for their replacements.”

Leaked hospital reports and daily videos by the Palestinian Resistance in Gaza suggest that the number of Israeli soldiers killed and wounded in Gaza is much higher.

The debt load of the U.S. is growing at a quicker clip in recent months, increasing about $1 trillion nearly every 100 days.

The nation’s debt permanently crossed over to $34 trillion on Jan. 4, after briefly crossing the mark on Dec. 29, according to data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. It reached $33 trillion on Sept. 15, 2023, and $32 trillion on June 15, 2023, hitting this accelerated pace. Before that, the $1 trillion move higher from $31 trillion took about eight months.

U.S. debt, which is the amount of money the federal government borrows to cover operating expenses, now stands at nearly $34.4 billion, as of Wednesday. Bank of America investment strategist Michael Hartnett believes the 100-day pattern will remain intact with the move from $34 trillion to $35 trillion.

“Little wonder ‘debt debasement’ trades closing in on all-time highs, i.e. gold $2077/oz, bitcoin $67734,” he wrote in a note Thursday.

Yesterday, we detailed the leak of a wiretapped telephone conversation in which senior German officers discuss the use of German Taurus missiles, training, the capabilities of this system and the possibility of destroying the Crimean bridge.

They revealed many interesting facts. Embarrassing for the Germans, who have now launched an investigation...

As The FT reports, German chancellor Olaf Scholz has promised a full investigation after Russia published a recording of a phone call between senior German air force officers in which they appeared to discuss supplying missiles to Ukraine.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with Pope Francis in Rome, Scholz described the incident as a “very serious affair”.

“It will be investigated very carefully, intensively and quickly,” he said.

“It is also necessary to do so.”

Shocking data released by the U.K. government shows that over the past two years, the vaccinated population in England has suffered an outrageous number of deaths compared to the unvaccinated population, even though approximately 30 percent of the population has not even had a single dose of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.

According to the U.K. Health Security Agency (UKHSA), by July 2022, 18.9 million people had refused the first dose of the COVID-19 injection, 21.5 million people had refused the second dose of the COVID-19 injection, alongside 2.6 million people who had received the first dose but refused the second, and 30.4 million people had refused the third dose of the COVID-19 injection, alongside 8.9 million people who had received the second dose but refused the third. (Related: CAUGHT: UK hospitals certified pneumonia deaths as COVID deaths to create illusion of pandemic.)

According to the UKHSA’s figures, 63.4 million people were eligible for vaccination at that point. Therefore, as of July 2022, 30 percent of England’s population remained completely unvaccinated; 34 percent was not double vaccinated; and 50 percent was not triple vaccinated. However, the vaccinated population as a whole accounted for 95 percent of all COVID-19 deaths between January and May 2023, while the unvaccinated population accounted for just five percent.

Concerned about a weaponized financial system, many countries have signaled plans to remove their gold and other assets from the U.S. in the wake of the unprecedented Western sanctions imposed on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

And at least one congressman is demanding answers from the Federal Reserve as to how much foreign gold has actually been removed from U.S. shores so far.

According to a 2023 Invesco survey, a “substantial percentage” of central banks expressed concern about how the U.S. and its allies froze nearly half of Russia’s $650 billion gold and forex reserves. One anonymous central banker told Invesco that his country quietly repatriated its gold from London, and some 68% of the banks surveyed said they are keeping their gold reserve within their country’s borders—up from 50% in 2020.

The apparent desire of foreign countries to bring their gold home would accelerate a trend that began when the U.S. decoupled the dollar from gold in 1971. Since then, the Federal Reserve’s custodial services have dwindled from some 13,000 tons of gold to just a little more than 6,000 tons.

But amidst the geopolitical angst, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell is refusing to divulge information about the U.S. central bank’s gold holdings. Insiders say such information could be highly damning.

Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz arrived in the US on Sunday on a trip that was not approved by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to Israeli media, Netanyahu wasn’t aware of the trip until Gantz informed the prime minister of his plans on Friday in a tense phone call. A source told the Israeli news site Ynet that Netanyahu “made it clear to Minister Gantz that the State of Israel only has one prime minister.”

Gantz, the leader of Israel’s National Unity party, is scheduled to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday. In a speech on Sunday, Harris called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza but quickly clarified that she meant a six-week truce, which is on the table as part of a potential hostage deal.

White House officials told The New York Times that Gantz and Harris are expected to discuss hostage negotiations and the potential for a temporary ceasefire. Israel boycotted the latest hostage deal talks that were held in Cairo on Sunday.

Gantz is also set to hold talks with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Brett McGurk, President Biden’s top Middle East official on the National Security Council.

Gantz is portrayed as Netanyahu’s moderate opposition, but Gantz supports the Israeli slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza. He recently threatened that Israel will invade the southern Gaza city of Rafah, which is packed with 1.5 million Palestinians, if Hamas doesn’t release Israeli hostages by Ramadan, which begins on March 10

Claire's Observations:  Please remember;  10 March... is this coming Sunday.

One might be tempted to believe that this trip is just for "grand political consumption" back  home in Israel where, I am quite sure, Gantz wants to stand for Prime Minister in the next elections, whenever they happen.

The United States, in collaboration with the Jordanian air force, dropped aid packages into Gaza on Saturday.

What is being marketed as benevolent assistance amounts to humanitarian aid theater that does nothing to end the systematic and intentional campaign of starvation Israel and its American and European allies, with the complicity of regional regimes, are waging against Palestinians.

Experts and aid officials have made clear that these airdrops are not an effective way to alleviate the starvation of 2.3 million people in Gaza deliberately caused by Israel, with the full backing of the United States.

By participating in these drops, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, but especially Jordan whose air force is carrying them out, are providing public relations cover for countries directly involved in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

The effect – whether intentional or not – is to relieve Israel and its backers of pressure to lift the total siege Tel Aviv has imposed on the coastal enclave with the clear intent of causing maximum suffering and death to as many people as possible.

What good is a humanitarian drop if the Jews are just going to open fire on you with tanks when you line up to get your flour?

It is now obvious – or at least obvious to me – that the “Flour Massacre” earlier this week was a planned event. The Jews set up the Palestinians to group together to get food, planning to gun them down while they were waiting in line. The purpose, other than just more deaths, is to make these starving people afraid to go to the aid pickups.
