DANA BASH, CNN: That's exactly what I was going to ask Jon about because Jon, you were at that fundraiser as well. I don't know if you spend as much time with President Biden as George Clooney did since he was one of the hosts. But that I'm totally with you, David. That quote was like, wow.

JON FAVREAU, FORMER OBAMA ADVISOR: I mean, it was not surprising to any of us who were at the fundraiser. I was there. Clooney was exactly right. And every single person I talked to at the fundraiser thought the same thing, except for the people working for Joe Biden, or at least they didn't say that.

But I remember my wife, Emily, turned to me after the fundraiser and said, what are we going to do? I mean, and I said, well, there's a debate in a week. Either he'll do well in the debate and we'll think, well, he was just tired because he flew all the way back from Europe and that'll be that or he'll be like this at the debate and then the whole country will be talking about it. So here we are.

The Democratic Party leadership has either been infected by a death wish — or infiltrated by agents of President Putin with a mission to ensure Donald Trump's victory in November.

How come? Think about it.

What's the biggest issue in American politics this summer? Why, Joe Biden's age and his fitness to serve a second term, a matter on which 80 percent of Americans have already concluded he's unfit.

And what's the issue Democrats continue to obsess over, their inability to come to a firm conclusion — should he go or should he stay — guaranteeing that it stays front and centre of every media outlet in every news cycle? Why, the President's fitness to run again and rule for another four years, of course.

The Democrats are doing Trump's work for him.

Sunny Eaton never imagined herself working at the district attorney’s office. A former public defender, she once represented Nashville, Tennessee’s least powerful people, and she liked being the only person in a room willing to stand by someone when no one else would. She spent a decade building her own private practice, but in 2020, she took an unusual job as the director of the conviction-review unit in the Nashville DA’s office. Her assignment was to investigate past cases her office had prosecuted and identify convictions for which there was new evidence of innocence.

The enormousness of the task struck her on her first day on the job, when she stood in the unit’s storage room and took in the view: Three-ring binders, each holding a case flagged for evaluation, stretched from floor to ceiling. The sheer number of cases reflected how much the world had changed over the previous 30 years. DNA analysis and scientific research had exposed the deficiencies of evidence that had, for decades, helped prosecutors win convictions. Many forensic disciplines — from hair and fiber comparison to the analysis of blood spatter, bite marks, burn patterns, shoe and tire impressions and handwriting — were revealed to lack a strong scientific foundation, with some amounting to quackery. Eyewitness identification turned out to be unreliable. Confessions could be elicited from innocent people.

Long-range US missiles are to be deployed periodically in Germany from 2026 for the first time since the Cold War, in a decision announced at Nato's 75th anniversary summit.

The Tomahawk cruise, SM-6 and hypersonic missiles have a significantly longer range than existing missiles, the US and Germany said in a joint statement.

Such missiles would have been banned under a 1988 treaty between the US and former Soviet Union, but the pact fell apart five years ago.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow would react with a "military reponse to the new threat".

"This is just a link in the chain of a course of escalation," he argued, accusing Nato and the US of trying to intimidate Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said during his remarks on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington that it is unlikely that the 31 US-supplied Abrams tanks made much of a difference on the battlefield in Ukraine.

"I'm not sure that such a number of tanks can change the situation in the battle," Zelensky said on Tuesday.

In May, CNN reported, citing Ukrainian crews maintaining the M1 Abrams tanks supplied by the United States, that there were numerous issues with using the armored vehicles on the battlefield.

The crews said that the $10 million vehicles did not have sufficient armor against modern weapons such as drones, thus failing to adequately protect personnel against attacks. One member said the tanks had become Russian forces’ "number one target."

A California judge handed Elon Musk a win in a lawsuit filed over the mass firing of staff at Twitter after he took over the social media platform in October 2022.

Mr. Musk and X Corp. (Twitter was rebranded as X in July 2023) were accused of violating provisions of the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) by allegedly misleading employees about whether he'd honor a severance plan “at least as favorable” as one developed by prior Twitter management, leading some staff to stay at the company longer than they otherwise would have and getting less severance pay than they expected when they were let go.

The class-action lawsuit, which was brought by Courtney McMillian, who oversaw Twitter’s benefits programs, sought at least $500 million in allegedly owed severance pay to some 6,000 laid-off employees.

In a July 9 order, U.S. District Judge Tina Thompson in San Francisco dismissed the complaint against Mr. Musk, arguing that the employees’ claims weren’t covered under ERISA rules in part because the company notified staff after Mr. Musk took over the company that any laid-off staffers would get lower payouts under a new plan.

“Communications were made by Defendants showing that the named Plaintiffs would no longer have access to the earlier plan, which was discontinued or modified greatly,” the judge wrote.

Americans are getting older, but not this old: Social Security records show that 6.5 million people in the US have reached the ripe old age of 112. In reality, only few could possibly be alive. As of last fall, there were only 42 people known to be that old in the entire world.

But Social Security does not have death records for millions of people, with the oldest born in 1869, according to a report by the agency’s inspector general.

Only 13 of the people are still getting Social Security benefits, the report said. But for others Social Security numbers are still active, so a number could be used to report wages, open bank accounts, obtain credit cards or claim fraudulent tax refunds.

“That is a real problem,” said Senator Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin. “When you have a fake Social Security number, that’s what allows you to fraudulently do all kinds things, claim things like the earned income tax credit or other tax benefits.”

Webmaster addition: Obviously these still-active Social Security numbers can also be used to fake ballots!

In recent months, the issue of so-called squatters’ rights has been a point of contention in various states throughout the country. After multiple high-profile cases of squatters - people who illegally entered a property and remained there for an extensive period without any rental agreement - gained notoriety, some governors in the country decided to take action. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) were among those who passed legislation protecting property owners in their states from squatters. Pennsylvania might be the next state to take action.

Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, received a standing ovation at a campaign rally last night in Doral, Florida. His father suggested it was his debut appearance in the world of politics.

“A son can be any age and he’ll still be your boy,” Trump said to the crowd. “And he’s a very special guy. BARRON. TRUMP.”

“A very young man who is now going to college — got into every college he wanted to and he made his choice,” Trump continued. “He’s a very good guy.” A few months ago, The Daily Beast had said Barron was applying to NYU, and on a different occasion Trump said Barron was interested in attending the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, Trump’s alma matter.

Well, the jig is up. The plot to conceal Biden’s cognitive decline has completely fallen apart, and now all that remains are the shattered reputations of those who defended him most fiercely. And the ones who deserve a “gold medal” in the Save Biden Olympics are his team of screeching fish wives, who would snap and yell at reporters daring to question him and quickly (and loudly) shoo them away. This ridiculous “shooing” by Biden’s fish wives has been ongoing since the moment Joe was installed, proving, without a doubt, that his cognitive abilities were compromised from the start, and everyone close to him knew it and tried to hide it from the American people.

The truly insulting part is that they know the gig is up, yet they keep hiding Joe from prying eyes. This latest “fishwife” spectacle just unfolded a few months ago.

The intelligence community once went to great lengths to gain a potential adversary's military secrets. The United States CIA spent years trying to obtain a Soviet T-72 main battle tank (MBT) while it reportedly paid the Afghan Mujahedeen $5,000 for the first captured AK-74 assault rifle in the early 1980s.

Today, the IC doesn't need to send spies on covert missions and instead can turn to social media and gaming forums, where a treasure trove of classified materials has been posted. The most recent was just this past week when an alleged Russian pilot posted documents related to the United States Air Force's F-35 Lightning II and F-15 Eagle jet fighters on the Telegram social messaging app.

News of the story was first reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), which cited Chinese military aviation experts who confirmed the documents were legitimate. According to the paper of record, the files—which have since been removed—contained the engine maintenance manual for the F110 engine used in the F-15SA, a variant of the F-15 Eagle in service with Saudi Arabia. In addition, a flight and maintenance manuals for the aircraft were also posted on the "Fighterbomber" channel on Telegram.

Republican lawmakers say the Biden administration is refusing to release a set of audio recordings that could help settle the debate over whether President Joe Biden's faltering performance at last month's presidential debate was just a one-off "bad night," as he has repeatedly claimed.

"We all know why they don't want to turn over the audio because it will ... show exactly what we all saw on the debate stage a couple weeks ago," House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, told reporters on Tuesday. "That is something they want to cover up."

The recordings capture Biden's two-day interview last October with then-special counsel Robert Hur, who ultimately concluded that while Biden improperly retained classified documents, he shouldn't be charged with any crimes because -- unlike former president Donald Trump, who was indicted for allegedly hoarding hundreds of classified documents and then trying to cover it up -- Biden cooperated with investigators and would likely convince a jury that he made "an innocent mistake." Trump, meanwhile, has denied all charges.

Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah said on 10 July that if Hamas reaches an agreement with Israel for a ceasefire in Gaza, the Lebanese resistance “will halt fire unconditionally.”

“If there is agreement, our front will halt fire unconditionally. Why? Because we are a support front, and we have been clear from the start,” Nasrallah said during a televised speech.

“Hamas is negotiating on behalf of the whole axis of resistance – whatever it agrees to, we will agree,” the resistance leader added.

“They update us and like to hear our opinions,” he continued. “We tell them to make the decision because we don’t want anyone to say our front is tired … we will continue fighting until needed.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy returned to the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday to cement relationships with lawmakers who will vote on future U.S. aid for his country, which could be in jeopardy if former President Donald Trump is reelected.

Zelenskiy, who is in Washington for this week's NATO summit, met with leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives and members of committees involved in defense, spending, diplomacy and national security.

"It's an incredibly important mission and we've got to stand by Ukraine," Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner told Reuters.

The visit comes amid deep uncertainty about this year's U.S. presidential election, which pits incumbent Democrat Joe Biden, a strong supporter of aid to Ukraine, against the Republican Trump, who has expressed skepticism about the amount of aid given.

Israel used a US-provided bomb in a strike on a school in a town east of the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis that was sheltering civilians, CNN reported on Wednesday.

The airstrike hit tents on the outside of the school in the town of Abassan on Tuesday. Officials at the nearby Nasser Hospital said 31 Palestinians were killed in the Israeli attack, including eight children.

Footage from Al Jazeera shows children playing soccer in the schoolyard as the strike hits the school’s entrance. Weapons experts told CNN that a video of the aftermath showed remnants of a US-made GBU-39 small-diameter bomb, a 250-pound munition.

Harvard University has lifted the suspensions of five students for participating in a pro-Palestine encampment earlier this year after campus-wide pressure, student activists have said.

Students said the university had contacted them on Tuesday and informed them that their suspensions had been downgraded to probations. Dozens of other students who were initially placed on probation also had probation periods shortened, the students said.

Over 60 students had been slapped with disciplinary charges for participating in the 20-day encampment in Harvard Yard in April and May, in which Harvard students joined thousands of students from around the world, calling on their universities to disclose and divest from companies involved in Israel's occupation and ongoing onslaught.

Hungary sees a potential return of former U.S. President Donald Trump as a "chance for peace" in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Wednesday as a NATO summit began with most allies hoping to send a firm message of support for Kyiv.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban visited Moscow last week on what he called a peace mission, but the initiative angered some of Budapest's fellow NATO allies, who said the trip handed legitimacy to Russian President Vladimir Putin's claims to Ukrainian territory seized since Russia's 2022 invasion.

The meeting of NATO leaders takes place in Washington as U.S. President Joe Biden is under pressure after a disastrous June 27 debate that boosted Trump in the polls ahead of a Nov. 5 election and raised concerns among allies about how the Republican candidate would approach the alliance and the war in Ukraine.

In an interview with Reuters in Washington, Szijjarto said Hungary's aim was to bring an end to the war through peace talks involving both Russia and Ukraine.

Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Professor Dr. Marty Makary said on Tuesday that President Joe Biden seems to be experiencing signs of dementia and cognitive decline.

Corporate media endeavored for years to suppress questions about Biden’s cognitive health, but it has become a topic of discussion ever since the president’s disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump.

Makary said on Fox News that the president’s movements during the debate showed “signs of somebody with cognitive slowing.”
